2024 – 2025 Annual Impact Report
Almaden Valley Counseling Service
Serving Santa Clara County Since 1980
Executive Director's Message
It shows up in classrooms, at kitchen tables, and in quiet moments of struggle that too many people face alone. AVCS exists because we believe no one should have to face those moments without support.
The pages ahead tell the story of what we built together. I hope it inspires you as much as it inspires me.
Program Spotlight
Our Counselors on Campus program places trained therapists directly inside schools — providing individual counseling, group sessions, crisis intervention, and referrals. AVCS school counselors play a multifaceted role, supporting students' emotional, academic, and social development while contributing to a positive school environment.
During 2024–2025, we served students across 31 schools and 31+ zip codes throughout Santa Clara County.
Program Spotlight
Santa Clara County is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse counties in the nation. Effective mental health care here requires more than clinical skill — it requires cultural fluency.
This year, 45 counselors worked under 11 clinical supervisors, collectively speaking 17 languages and representing backgrounds that mirror the communities they serve.

In 2025, AVCS served clients from over 18 different ethnic backgrounds.
Program Spotlight
Our Outpatient Clinic provides individual and family therapy to adults and children across the South Bay, using a sliding-scale fee model to keep care accessible regardless of income. Sessions are available both in-person and via telehealth.
Program Spotlight
Strong families don't happen by accident. AVCS offers quarterly parenting classes for families with children of all ages — from preschool through the teenage years — grounded in the STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) model.
STEP focuses on practical skills: communication, encouragement, healthy discipline, and problem-solving. Classes are group-based, allowing parents to learn from each other as much as from the curriculum.
For families navigating separation or divorce, we also offer Cooperative Parenting and Divorce — a course designed to help parents work as a team for their children even when their relationship has changed.
2024–2025 Financials
Demand for mental health services continues to grow. With the ongoing support of our community and stakeholders, we remain committed to accessible, compassionate care.
Strategic Priorities
AVCS is guided by eight strategic priorities that address both immediate community needs and long-term organizational health.
Expand outreach to reach more individuals across Santa Clara County.
Grow funding to ensure AVCS's long-term financial health.
Deepen partnerships with mental health organizations and community groups.
Ensure services are inclusive and culturally competent for all.
Invest in early intervention before crises escalate.
Strengthen AVCS's capacity to respond rapidly to community crises.
Use technology to expand access to mental health resources.
Decrease barriers and normalize seeking mental health support.
Gratitude
None of this happens without you. To every donor, partner, and volunteer — thank you for trusting us with your support. You are the reason AVCS can open its doors every day.
